Home Inventory A+++++++++++

This app is awesome, I am very glade I located this app to purchase. I was able to customize it to fit my desire to track other valuable things besides home items. I was able add/orginize the order of my newly createad entry fields. I downloaded the plugin to print reciepts from the web and emails and upload them directly to the tracked items shell. I love the fact that you can load muliple images for all tracked items. This allows me to show photos of items as they age/wear/damage. Thank you very much for this awesome application. I recommend that you guys offer a like DB to track like items that are added to estates/trusts. There is a market for an application of such; and I would be more than happy to purchase it. (unless you add me to your team) I have more concepts and market areas that you could target. Standing by…...

Excellent Home Inventory App!

I’ve been using Home Inventory for 4 years, and it the best home inventory app for the Mac. The iOS support is very helpful in adding new items. They keep adding new features each year, and the support is great.

Best Inventory Program!!!!

I had looked at this program for a while before purchasing a couple of years ago. I am so glad I did and it keeps getting better and better. I have read comments from people that scoff at a home inventory program and state all you need is to take pictures for your insurance. On the surface, this may appear to be a basic inventory program but it is so much more. While it may take some time to enter everything, once you do, you have a database that tracks your items, keeps track of warranties, and stores your manuals. I’m going paperless and had a folder with tons of manuals from items I purchased. No rhythm or reason but now, they are aligned with the item and easy to locate. I can’t tell you how many times something has broken and I didn’t know if it was in warranty or not. Now I can (and have) look up the purchase date and see if the warranty still applies. I also store the support contact information so no more searching on how to find the company. When I purchase something, it takes five minutes to take pictures, enter the information, add the receipt, and put the manual/support documents in the database. It very fast and easy. I have referenced this information many times, again, fast and easy with search. They also provide mobile solutions for fast entry of existing items and for viewing items/documentation on your iPhone or iPad. Everything syncs with Drobox and fits in their free offering. Does it take some work? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes. You hope nothing will ever happen but if it does, you will be prepared. The program is stable and the company is great on updates and communication. I would highly recommend this program and its core to my household.

Valuable App

Home Inventory 3.6 is a great app for organizing and keeping track of the items in the home. The overall design of the app is excellent and using the app is very intuitive. I used to itemize my inventory on a spreadsheet and Home Inventory is a tremendous upgrade and worth the money. Home Inventory allows you to track as much information as you care to about individual items and store info on the purchases. The latest version allows tracking and storage of general information and files regarding the home which is a great update feature. Home Inventory is also available as a mobile app so your inventory and item records are always with you and in sync with desktop with the backup process. Numberous reports are available to print home inventory records. Valuable record keeping system in the event you need to provide a listing of the items and their valiue on an insurance claim.

Home Inventory Is First-Rate

I’ve been using Home Inventory for several years now, and it’s one of my favorite apps. No crashes, no notable bugs, and a ton of useful features. The free iPhone companion apps are excellent too. If you want to track possessions, warranties, etc., store user manuals, purchase receipts and more, this is the way to do it. Also, the developers respond quickly to questions and suggestions.

New version (3.6) is Awesome!!! Love the new Heir tracking feature

I love the new versions (3.6) ability to keep track and manage heirs. I preveously had added a custom field for “Heir” and created my own reports for that purpose, but now it’s built right into the application! Love it! I’ve had this software for over 4 years now and have enjoyed bug-free, rock solid performance as well as great support, not to mention FREE updates that ALWAYS contain new inovative features that I find myself using. Recommend this software to anyone needing a solid performing and intuitive home inventory system.

Great application

I just bought this application a few days ago. Home inventory is something we’ve been “meaning” to do for a long time. While not exactly painless this application takes a lot of the pain out of the process. It’s very intuitive, very quick, pretty flexible and kind of fun. My only real complaint is that it insists on filling in a full date under “purchase date”, so if I want to simply specify a year it defaults to the current calendar date with the year I entered. Somewhat of a pain, but the rest of the application makes up for it. What I like best is the photo editing tools. I can take a picture, drag it into the application and with a quick couple of clicks it’s cropped perfectly. Nice piece of work!

Need better support for users

I get very frustrated with the program. Email support is there. However, it can take from a day to a couple of days. I would rate the app better if when requesting customer support, I have requested a call back to clarify some things. I am disabled vet, and sometimes I can not get the right words in. However; the owner Dianne has failed to contact me via telephone with requests for clarifications.

Great Product & Customer Service

Have enjoyed this product for years. After experiencing an error message after data migration to a new MacBook Pro I emaiedl Binary. Diane responded immediately - problem solved. Highly recommend.

Fantastic!!!

My house was just burglarized a few weeks ago, i wish i would of had this program then. Just think for a moment, how would you ever remember EVERYTHING you owned if your house ever burned down?? I have been useing it for about a week now. NO issues what so ever. Very easy to use. I HAVENT HAD ANY ISSUES WHAT SO EVER!!!

Worth Every Penny!!

Living in "Tornado Alley", and having seen houses completely leveled on more than one occasion (fortunately never mine), having my belongings inventoried is critical; but nothing Ive tried has been easy. So far, this is the answer! I love this app!! Its easy to use, even without the (free) iPhone app. Entry is quick and easy and you can categorize your belongings many different ways - by collections (e.g., a MacBook Pro and all the accessories), location (e.g., the office) or categories (electronics) just to name a few. I havent even tried any of the reports, yet (a particularly nice one is the total value of your belongings for insurance purposes). Yes, it is kindof tedious to initially enter your belongings (that would be true with any method), but the iPhone app makes that infinitely easier. You link the two via Wifi then roam around your house taking pictures or scanning UPC codes (and so far I havent scanned a UPC code thats not in the database). Theres also a free iPhone backup app to have another copy of your inventory.

Very Cool

I like this app and am using it to track all our major purchases - Hi fi, cars, skis…. I can store receipts, warraties, manuals and purchase data on everything. Its well thought out and the developers are actively working on it and making improvements. Its now easier to scan documents into Home Inventory, something I do every time I enter a new item. Gripes - I like the old way of storing supporting docs (like receipts and warranties) better. Before the last upgrade I could see everything in one window. Now I have to click tabs for "Info, Photos, Reciepts and Files" to even see if I HAVE any of these documents for that entry. This is an unwelcome extra step. This feature was a downgrade. On the whole though I like it better than the other apps like it out there that I researched before buying.

Not great for books

I have tried to use the Photo Remote to scan barcodes of my books in order to import them into my inventory. So far, the scanner/lookup has come up with incorrect information for about half the books I have tried scanning (mostly the older ones, I think). I dont understand why this would occur, since it is reading the ISBN off the barcode, and the ISBNs surely havent changed. For the books that have been recognized, it seems to obtain the following fields only: - Publisher - Title - Price Im certain Im not the only person who expects it to find the Author! Of course, there is other information that would be good too. Maybe if I hunt in the documentation, I can find a way to get it to behave in a more intuitive way, but I think its not too much to expect to have an Author field come up by default in a Book category.

Really great home inventory database

Its like getting a Devonthink or Evernote template adapted to the specific design of a good looking and easy to use inventory database. You can add pictures, notes, receipts, and getting the pix and files are made easier by free iPad/iphone apps, one of which lets you back it up on your mobile. Also built in links to any image capture scanner. And print summary pdfs or hard copy reports of the bottom lines.

Wonderful App!

This app fills a niche that I didnt know I needed, until after I bought it! Yes it cost a little bit of money, but what decent application can you get for free that is as well rounded as this one, that doesnt inundate you with ads and micro transactions? None! So why does this app fill a niche that I didnt know I needed? Simple… I own a home, and never really even thought more than a passing glance that I should create some form of personal inventory of everything we own, so that in the case of an emergency (god forbid), wed be prepared to quickly and effectively provide documentation and other miscellaneous information to the insurance company and quickly get back on our feet. After coming across Home Inventory, I knew I needed to get it! The process is simple, and the new version recently released makes it even simpler. I create a house, configure it with my insurance policy information, configure the number of rooms, add items to each room to fill them up with inventory, and finally add miscellaneous information and pictures to each item so that theyre easier to identify and prove in the case of a loss. Thats it! From that point, I can quickly run reports, check values, and see pictures of everything I own, giving me a quick and effective overview of our entire lifes possessions. Easy! There are a ton more features, including the ability to add other documents (receipts, warranty information, etc.) to help keep better track of things. For me personally, I dont have a need for such things, as I keep all of my documents, receipts and warranty information inside of another program on another computer. However, if youd like to have everything all in one easy to find spot, Home Inventory does provide a wonderful opportunity to do so! Even better, Home Inventory also syncs with DropBox! How cool is that? Not only is all of the data there in one application, but if my laptop burns up, I can quickly restore my entire database onto another computer in an instant. BAM! Its a simple thing, but an often-overlooked one. And in the case of a fire in your home that destroys everything, I would assume it to be quite common that such a fire would also destroy the very computer that you have Home Inventory configured on. As such, without a DropBox backup sync, your data would be lost! Bottom line - buy Home Inventory! For the price, its well worth all the functionality and effeciency it gives you!

This is some of the best software I have even used

It does what it says its going to do so well you will constantly be surprised and pleased. The ability to use your iPhone as a photo remote is outstanding. I just take pictures of items and a second picture of their serial number and it saves a ton of time. It was able to find my Brother MFC scanner and use it to get receipts. Highly recommended.

Misleading ease of use

Ive had this product over a month and havent even entered one item yet. Why would you advertise a compatibility with iphone/ipad that initially is only for backing up to look at items on the go? Then you add a photo remote to make adding items easier, but you physically need to have the connection going with the computer over wifi while entering. I purchased this software to speficially help my parents inventory their home, and link it to my MacAir, only to find out I need to be physically present with my laptop during the process. This is extremely time consuming and not easy to use, which is the exact opposite reason I purchased this product.

Not Intuitive

I have had a Macintosh computer since 1987. The reason that I have a Mac is that it is intuitive, which means that I dont have ot keep referring to the manual in order to set up my stuff. I think this ia a good program, BUT, found it not intuitive at all. I have to look up how to do almost everything in the manual and find it confusing and not very elegant as would be expected from a Mac App.

I like it!

Easy to use. I am not a computer savy person but I found this to be easy to use and a great tool for home inventory stuff. I like it.

Love it!!

This is exactly what I needed. I am going through room by room entering everything: furniture, art, electronics, tools, you name it. I have an excellent camera so Im using it to photograph items then importing them through iPhoto. It is tedious but by knocking off one or two rooms a day, Im gradually getting through it. I love the reports it produces and the ability to customize them. I back it up to my iPad and I also put it into DropBox. This software is important to me for several reasons. Insurance of course, inheritance, and the possibility that we may sell this home furnished. There is one improvement I would like to see and that is the ability to add photos of each location, not just the items in the location. Since most of the reports are separated by location and have a title page, an overview picture of that location would be nice. Good job Binary!
