Great

Good Job Guys!! This application and the two iPhone apps are the coolest things going. My compliments to the programers. Since many inventory entries may share a similar or identical title, I would like to suggest to the programers that the iPhone app have the option to browse the inventory photos rather than entry titles. This should make it easier and faster to find the entry you are looking for.

As good as you can imagine

This product does everything you could want. Sensible organization options, capability for notes, receipts, pictures -- all easy to include in inventory. User interface is as easy to use as imaginable.

Powerful. Easy to use.

I have been using this app since its inception and there is nothing critical I can now say of it. It serves its function and is a delight to use. I highly recommend this app to anyone looking to organize their household inventory (or their business).

I like it but it can still be improved...

Nothing wrong so far with what is there but I have several recommendations to improve the app: - Provide capability to capture repair & maintenance tasks that were performed on the equipment, with date, who performed maintenance and the cost. It would be helpful to be able to pull a report for a piece of equipment and see all repairs that were performed and what total costs you have had to spend on that equipment. For instance, I have a refrigerator that has been a real pain and Ive had so many repairs on it that its a real exercise to reconstruct the history. The fridge itself is unique and was quite expensive so its worth it to track the costs and discuss the history with the provider when he performs repairs. - Provide capability to track multiple warranties on various parts in one equipment record. For instance, I have an air conditioner compressor that was purchased in 2005 and it had an overall warranty. In 2012 a new motor was installed and it has a 5 year warranty. In 2013 a capacitor was replaced and it has a 2 year warranty. My suggestion is to add a description and an effective date to each warranty record. Right now the warranty report has no real meaning as it is driven solely from the original purchase date of the equipment (as opposed to the parts) - Provide capability to add a second home or business. The "home" page appears to be single

Fantastic Customer Support

I wanted to convert 4 Access Database Inventories (3 were collections) to CSV files to be imported into Home Inventory. Over 5000 items. The data was not importing correctly. I contacted Home Inventory Support and over several days they helped me solve each of the problems I was facing. The responses were prompt, easy to understand and very friendly. I felt like I had my own personal support person whenever I needed them. I now have an easy to reference inventory of all my "stuff". Many thanks to the folks at Home Inventory.

Needs improvement

This app could be exponentially better with the ability to add inventory items via iPhone/iPad.

Awesome

Maybe the most useful app ever!

THE Inventory Program

Perfect in everything it should be. This is the only app you should consider when on the prowl.

Great app for managing all the physical things in your life

I’ve been using this app for a couple of years now and it’s just great. It is very easy to enter new items and to attach all of the important information such as photos, receipts, etc. The Photo Remote and Mobile Inventory apps are great for making adding photos easy & giving you access to your inventory on the go. I’ve even entered all of the important replacement part info into the item details, so when I am at the hardware store and need a furnace filter, or lawn mower blade or spark plug I can look all those up on the go.

Very nice tool!

I have been using this for some time now, and am happy with the functionality. I also like the ability to use the companion iOs app to add photos and new items.

has potential but…..

the desktop app could be a great tool but I feel the iPad/iphone apps are way behind. I should be able to use the iPad/iphone apps to enter the data without needing my desktop running and on the same network, its useless if inventorying items in a storage unit or detached shed etc. I should have stayed with TapForms for my home inventory, it works via cloud and I can customize it to suit ny needs. please bring the companion apps up to date.

Yay for updates

The new update is decent. Nothing dramatic. The same program you’ve come to expect with minor UI tweaks.

Needs iCloud sync / encryption

I have used several HI programs, some Windows, some MAC. This one is the best. The photo remote feature is VERY helpful. (I even bought the in-app purchase to support the developers). Snap a picture, and boom…it’s imprted to the iMac. However, iCloud sync is a MUST. Dropbox has security flaws. Encryption would be a “like to” have. I cloud skip the encryption if iCloud was used.

I would like my money back… it keeps crashing and won’t load.

I can’t believe I paid for this.

App is great until last update...

I loved this app when I first bought it off the app store, back in May 2014. I have not actually tried running it since the last update. Unfortunately, when I tried to open the application today, it keeps crashing. I am unable to open any of my saved inventories or start fresh. Please fix this so I can give it the 5-stars it deserves.

Works fine for me on Yosemite

Great app, best I’ve found. Has everything I need, wish the photo viewer/editor could more intuitive but it’s not a big issue. Been ussing this for years no problem.

I’m So Disappointed

I am SO disappointed in this program. I’ve spent all night to record just six items, and I need to input 600 tomorrow — I’m moving. The remote photo program never worked reliably. It crashed twice. It was unbearably slow - not workable. This just goes to show that at twenty dollar program can be no better than one that is free. No iPad support. This program could be truly great… instead it was a waste of money.

Fantastic!

This is a must have for any home owner. However, if you are in an area where bad weather can turn in to a tragedy — then this becomes a life saver when you are dealing with insurance.

Great App!

Summary: Excellent app, works as advertised, one of the best user guides I’ve seen in years. Well worth the money. Highly recommended. Background: I’m running Home Inventory (HI) on a MacBook Pro with Mavericks O/S. I use a standard digital camera and scanner to input photos & receipts. I do not own a cell phone or any other i-device, so I’m unable to comment on integration of such devices with HI. Pros: •User-friendly, intuitive •Installed quickly and easily •Has never crashed or even slowed down, even when I’m running multiple apps at the same time •Very responsive customer service •Handy customization features •Can catalogue collections as well as individual items, so there is no need for a separate app to track collections of books, CDs, etc. HI can handle it all. •User guide is well-written and thorough. In addition to instructions for using the app, it also includes practical suggestions for conducting your inventory and coordinating it with insurance. •Free trial available Cons: None Caveats: •Minor issue - The barcode lookup searches Amazon barcode databases only. There is no option to search other barcode databases from the app. If an item is not in an Amazon barcode database, the app will not find it. Amazon databases are extensive, however, so the barcode lookup is able to find many items. Just be aware that it won’t find every barcode you enter, but that’s true of other barcode lookup tools, too. •Purchase Date field – formatting of this field is tied to the systems date format. I have my Mac configured to display the full date – month, day, year. But for some of the items in my inventory, I only know only the month/year or just the year acquired. If I enter just a month/year or just a year, HI automatically converts it to a full date. For many of my items, that’s inaccurate. But I found an easy work-around. I removed the “Purchased Date” field and substituted my own custom, “Date Acquired” field. I set "Date Acquired" as a text field instead of as a date field. This allows me to enter the date in any format I wish. Bottom Line: This is a stable, very useful app with nice customization features.

Still working perfectly wiwth 3.3

3.3 Update - The interface is clean and gorgeous, and the app continues to work exactly as I’d like it to. The redesigned phone app also makes adding photos (and now items!) extremely simple, even if you’re not on your network. If you need an inventory app, this is the one. 3.2.2 Update - I bought this under the last OS, upgraded to Yosemite, and have continued working with no problems at all. I’m sorry people are having trouble, but I’ve found the developer to be extremely responsive - I hope you talked to them and got their help before just trashing the app. In the Spring I spent about a week doing a full inventory of our home, something I’ve tried in the past with little success. I thought it was going to take me much longer than it did! The application is extremely intuitive, and the Photo Remote for the iPhone made documenting EVERYTHING a snap. This is a great tool. I’d looked at several others, but am very glad I went with Home Inventory. I’ve backed the inventory (and reports) up to a removable drive, a zip drive in our safe deposit box, and send one to my sister. This has given us much more peace of mind, in the event of a disaster, that we will have every bit of documentation we would need for a successful claim.
