Home Inventory App Reviews

A powerful tool to help me keep track of assets

I have been using Home Inventory for several years now to maintain an accurate Net Worth report. The interface is very nice looking and easy to use. I also like how the developer responds to all the suggestions that I send to him via email. This is something that is kind of rare these days. Keep up the good work!

Extremely valuable app

I have been using the app now for several years. Well worth the cost for me. I have a house, 2 barns, and 2 sheds. Each has a separate inventory. I can enter receipts, photos, data. I liked that I could edit the entry fields because many of the items were not purchased by me (inherited, gifts, etc) and I could make a field for the source of the item rather than purchased from. Also the app only accepts dates in date form but I was able to make a field where I could say something like “1930’s”. I am excited about the new related iphone app that will allow me to inventory items in remote buildings without connecting to wifi and it will download the items later. Anytime I have encountered a concern or difficulty and emailed the developers, the answer appeared quickly, usually within a few hours. Very helpful folks. There is another iphone app that lets you download items from the main inventory to your phone or ipad so you can take it with you. I have not tried it.

Home Inventory is Awesome and Easy to Use

The Home Inventory application by Binary Formations is the BEST home “inventory” tracking software I have ever used. In addition to allowing me to keep track of my household contents, it also allows me to keep track of my various personal collections (musical instruments, knife collection, my wife’s jewelry collection, etc.). I love how I can use my iphone to take pictures of items and then sync them with the main program on my MAC. It’s easy to use, fast and actually a lot of fun. The reporting features are great too.

A Collector’s Dream Come True

I have been using this program for a few years now, but this latest version blows the old ones out of the water! The ability to add items without being on the Wi-Fi is monumentally important and makes using the software a breeze :). I use it for personal organizing of video games, books, magazines and CDs for personal use and also use it to catalog my business inventory, my children’s toys and figures and nearly everything in the house. It’s an OCD collector’s dream come true =). No more endless searching for things and it instantly clears the clutter as you know where everything is. Ironically, it’s lead to me collecting less things after it’s helped me to see just how many things I’ve already collected. A+ to the team on this one!

iCloud or Dropbox Sync?

I work from a MBPro and a Mini from home. The Dropbox backup is great, but I want the same database on both computers. Do you have plans for this, or can we move our Home Inventory database itself into DB? This would move me to 5 stars.

Fabulous!

I bought this originally to address the task of organizing and categorizing the many antiques and heirlooms we husband inherited. Lists, pictures, and stories are great, but it’s also necessary to add the acquisition date and value details. I like being able to add several pictures (not limited to only one) and to be able to add a note or description of the item. I like being able to group them in collections as well as by location — pieces of jewelry, collections of porcelain or silver, books or paintings by a particular artist. Also, using the tag function offers another way to categorize groups of items. This is easy to use — if you can take picture with your cell phone and if you know how to type, you can do this! Every homeowner should be using this program — it’s as important as buying insurance on your home and its contents. Thank you!

Awesome Inventory Management Tool

I love this program; I have used it for years and hate to think what I would do if it were no longer available. It and Remote Entry work exceptionally well make walking around and inventorying a breeze. Customer support is outstanding. It is in a class by itself!

OK product but not great yet

The product is ok - but cumbersome to use. Main issues: To do backup to mobile - or use remote “ connection “ - you need to let the program enter a “ special “ mode. When your are in that mode - you can’t do anything else in the program. That is a pain…. So either you can use it with a “ remote connection “ or you can use it locally. So one star off for that. Computers have been able to do more than one thing at any one time for a long long time……. 2nd star removed - The program does support “ multiple currencies “ - but ONLY at PRICE ENTRY. At price entry it converts entered price to either Computers “Setting” - or a defined currency. But here is the downside: If you CHANGE the main currency- the stored value of your items does NOT change. So if you buy something for US $100 - and move to Canada - the “ value “ will still be 100 - but now in Canadian $ - which at the moment actually would have been CAD $123’ish. So please change it so value is based on the currency you input - and is completely independent of the currency chosen to operate in. In our international world that is really a “must have”

Great inventory app

I’ve been using Home Inventory for over a year and very pleased with it. Easy to make entries, run great reports for insurance or other purposes, backup to remote devices so you can view your inventory/collections on the go and never crashes on me. Job well done!

Excellent App for Home Tracking

This is one of the best apps available for everyman to track their personal posessions. With remote entry people can use iPhone to take photos and update details for each item - tools, furniture, artwork, jewelry, anything you own. One suggestion - add home maintenance completion recording ability in addition to scheduling of maintenance tasks

Best Inventory Program Since 2013, Keeps Getting Better

After graduating college, I found myself suddenly making more purchases than ever. The physical items I bought when moving into a new apartment increased, as well as my digital collection of purchased entertainment items (games, movies, etc.) I found myself losing track of items I purchased, especially if I made a quick digital online purchase during my break at work. Between all the new digital delivery formats (Apple, Google Play, UltraViolet, PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, etc.), I started accidentally re-purchasing items on different medias/platforms. The breaking point was when I accidentally purchased the same tools one month apart because I forgot to manually type them into the Excel sheet I was using at that time to keep track of purchases. My renter’s insurance also stated that I would have to either keep the receipt or have a picture of the item (in my living area) if I ever wanted to file a cliam. I started looking for Windows solutions for inventory items, but most guides pointed to Excel or Access for homebrew solutions. The Windows software available were bare-bones text-based versions for $50, or $200+ solutions for small businesses. Most of them offered scanning and auto-inputting data from the Amazon database, but they required a laser scanner (like you use at a store checkout) or a webcam. I found several articles from LifeHacker and TechCrunch that pointed to this little gem on the Mac. Since I run multiple operating systems, I decided to try it out, and boy was I in for a treat! This app had the following features that made it stand out: *Link a phone to the computer for wireless scanning of barcodes and uploads of user-taken pictures *Auto-populate fields such as the product name, model, price, date, and more from Amazon *Automatically pull stock pictures of the item from websites *Allow custom editing *Allow creating of “categories” and “locations” to tag and sort each item *Show a thumbnail of items when browsing your own inventory *Back up an archive to a different location in the computer *Back up to an iPhone so you can view your inventory while mobile It has recently added new features such as allowing a remote-scan while away from your home wireless network, which allows the app to add items to the computer’s database when you get home! I still have to manually add digital purchases, but it’s easier to manage than the Excel spreadsheet I used to use. I can just copy-paste the item name from my email receipts and drag-and-drop pictures from Amazon, Google, or other web stores so I can still have the thumbnails when I’m scrolling through my collection. The two features that I rarely use, but found handy, was the option to export a text-only list to Excel (CSV) so that I could share some of my purchase history with a family member. This also allows your database to be moved to other programs, such as Windows-only programs, if you ever want to abandon this one. The other feature was to restore-from-iPhone. My Mac hard drive suddenly went corrupt one day and I couldn’t recover any data short of sending it off for an $800 raw-data recovery fee. Since I had the entire Home Inventory database backed up (about 1GB) to my iPhone, I was able to restore all of the database (including pictures!) to my new hard drive. Also, remeber that the iPhone requires two of their apps to get all the features: “Remote Entry” and “Mobile Backup”. There is an option to add receipt scans, warranty information, and now there is a feature where the program alerts you when your warranties and licenses are about to expire. I don’t use those, but I soon may. This is the first review I’ve ever written in the Apple App Store, but after two years of use, I just can’t say enough about Home Inventory. The program has also updated and kept support since moving from Mountain Lion to Yosemite. I’ve switched over to Windows on all of my computers and tablets, but I keep a Mac around just to use this software. I guess that’s a ringing endorsement for a product - I keep an entire computer around just to use one program! It’s worth it.

This app is great

I have been using Home Inventory for several years. It is very easy to use and allows me to keep track of everything I own, with photos, receipts, warranties. I highly recommend it.

Best app on my computer

i have used home inventory for the last 2 years. It is the best app on my computer. This app will help with insurance purchase. A five star app.

Good so far

I just downloaded this app and started to inventory the contents of my home. It runs smoothly on my computer and I like it so far. I would, however, like to offer one minor suggestion that I hope the developer(s) will consider incorporating into a future release. When entering a new item, there is a drop-down menu for selecting the item’s condition. At present, the list is sorted alphabetically; I suggest that to speed along entry of new items, this list should instead be sorted in descending order of condition (i.e., excellent, very good, good, fair, poor). That said, if your are considering purchasing app, please do not be distracted by my mentioning this minor detail. The app is really nice!

Great app for firearm inventory

I have been looking all over the internet for a firearms inventory for a MAC product. This is THE app for that. You can customize each line and design it the exact way you want to. I made a mirror immage of The NRA National Fireamrs Museum GUN COLLECTOR’S LOGBOOK. You can add pictures, receipts, supporting documents and much more! This app prints reports for value and inventory list for your Insurace Broker for your Personal Articles Policy. I am amazed how easy it was to use. I am looking forward to using it for my coin, knife, and stamp collection next. The use for this app is limitless! AAA+ Highly Recomend! Don’t settle for less and spend the money for this app. Well worth it!

Security needs more consideration

Pairing with password for remote entry should be required, you have an open connection for any mobile device on the same WIFI network which is not a good approach for anyone sharing WIFI over an area, such as a college dorm or apartment complex with a shared broadband network. A ‘Notes’ or ‘Description’ field is also needed for each item, to explain differences in ‘Price’ and ‘Value’ if an item is upgraded or has had maintenance/modifications done to it that increase value. For instance, a musical instrument (guitar) with modified tuners, electronic pickup, etc… these are too difficult to add one at a time and much simpler to add a detail note on the item for its value being higher than original price. Another good use for this field would be noting that it was a discounted sale price or otherwise un-repeatable price and therefore replacement cost ‘value’ is expected to be higher.

Wonderful App for Keeping Track of Items at Home

Ive been using Home Inventory for over a year now and I love it. The design is very detail-oriented and I loved discovering features that I hadnt previously known about. It is super useful for taking inventory of items in your home, especially valuables. You can store warranty information and receipts too. Love the layout of the app and how user-friendly it is. Great work guys!

Insurance Inventory

This App is by far better than other programs I used on my windows HP. I am transferring everything to this program. It was easy to learn and adjust to my situation. I am using it to inventory all my stuff in my house for insurance purposes. If something happens such as a fire or theft, I have everything logged in with pictures, sales receipts, warranties, purchase price and current value to validate any claims that I make. I am storing the program information in the cloud so if my computers are stolen, damaged or suffer a malfunction, I can easily retrieve the information. I use this method so I do not have to keep making backups overtime I add or change items in my house. I highly recommend this program for any type of inventory situation. Very easy to use.

Home Inventory

I found this application very easy to capture a complete inventory of my home. Using my iPhone to add photographs of each item was also very helpful. It gave me a great document to use when I am selling my home furnished . If I knew it was going to be this easy I would have taken the inventory when I first purchased my home for insurance purposes also. During the initial setup I had some questions and emailed support. They responded very quickly even on a weekend. I am impressed.
